Supercar champion lacing up to race on the runway at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon

Toowoomba born and bred Australian racing car driver Will Brown won’t be landing his plane on the runway at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport on Saturday 3 May, but he will be lacing up his runners for the Runway Mile and the Grand Central 5km in the 2025 Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon.

The celebrity V8 Supercar driver who took out the 2024 Supercars Championship for Triple Eight Race Engineering will use a weekend in his hometown to get a bit of exercise and support the local event.

“It’s not every day you get to run a mile on a runway and the opportunity to test myself on a fast and flat 5km course around the airport will be a great challenge.

“I’m looking forward to catching up with some locals and visitors to our beautiful region and encourage everyone to come along, enjoy the atmosphere and action of a major event, cheer on the runners and have some fun at the airport for the afternoon,” Brown said.

Events Management Queensland (EMQ) CEO Ben Mannion said they were delighted Will has taken some time out of his busy schedule to participate in the new events at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport which will be followed by free entertainment from the local Fibonacci Band with food trucks and lots of fun on the lawn.

“We’ve added the very unique opportunity to run where few have run before with the Runway Mile, the Runway Relay and the Grand Central 5km to open the event up to everyone and cater for all ages and abilities,” Mr Mannion said.

There is still opportunity to enter the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Visit Toowoomba Region 10km , Grand Central 5km, the Runway Mile and Runway Relay before the super saver special finishes on 31 March 2025.
