2024 Toowoomba Marathon locked in for May-day long weekend.

A world class running event will pound the pavements of Toowoomba’s picturesque garden and tree lined streets with the 2024 Toowoomba Marathon locked in for Sunday 5 May 2024 with entries opening on Thursday 1 February.

Managed and delivered by Events Management Queensland (EMQ) who organise the iconic Gold Coast Marathon, the event will include the 42.195km marathon, a half marathon and a 10km, 5km and 2km run.

With a four-year major running event hiatus, the Toowoomba Region Council (TRC) and Toowoomba Road Runners (TRR) have welcomed the opportunity to deliver an initiative that diversifies the city’s event/festival offering, showcases many of Toowoomba’s historic and picturesque assets whilst delivering an economic and tourism impact.

EMQ will work with TRC and TRR to further plan the event and consult with relevant stakeholders on a course layout as well as securing road closure permits and approvals.

Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald said he was delighted the city would once again host a marathon with the additional race events meaning people of all ages and abilities could enter.

“This is a unique opportunity for us to showcase the city, promote healthy activity and commence the journey towards the Toowoomba Marathon being recognised as a premier running event on the national running calendar.

“We welcome the collaboration with EMQ who have more than 43 years of experience in hosting major events and have evolved the Gold Coast Marathon into a world-renowned marathon that delivers a significant tourism and economic impact to the region.

“It is also important that TRR are working closely with EMQ to support the event planning and to ensure there are historic elements of previous Toowoomba running events considered and the local community can play a role in the events delivery.”

TRR President Wendy Dighton reiterated the Mayor’s support for the Toowoomba Marathon adding that the road runners would work closely with the team at EMQ on race routes, community liaison and helping recruit the all important volunteers to assist on race day.”

EMQ CEO Ben Mannion said they welcomed the opportunity to expand their event portfolio and were looking forward to sharing their extensive experience in delivery of major events.

“The EMQ team has experience across almost every major multi-sport event in the world and they are eager to share their expertise and support the Toowoomba community to evolve a signature event that celebrates their city.”

The Toowoomba Marathon website is now live with entries opening on 1 February 2024.
