100 days to go marks release of the 2025 Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon medals
It’s time to limber up with only 100 days to enter an event or two in the 2025 Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon.
With a two-day program that includes a unique opportunity to ‘run a mile’ on the airport runway, free live entertainment and fun for the whole family, entries are ramping up with participants from all over Queensland and Australia already laced up for 3-4 May event.
Events Management Queensland CEO Ben Mannion said they were very excited about this year’s event and the introduction of new initiatives designed to engage the entire community.
“We have a day of family friendly races for all ages and abilities and entertainment planned for Saturday at the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport.
“There is a 5km run around the airport and the ‘Runway Mile’ is a rare opportunity to run on an airport tarmac with categories for elite runners, juniors, schools, corporate and fitness clubs.
“The corporate relay is all about encouraging businesses and their employees to get a team together, step outside the office environs, champion healthy and fun activity and run, walk or jog for the inaugural Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Corporate Relay winner bragging rights,” Mr Mannion said.
One hundred days to go until the event will be marked by the release of the design for this year’s Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon and the Visit Toowoomba Region 10km medals which feature iconic landmarks and the distinct colouring of Toowoomba’s historic floral emblem, the sweet violet.
Mr Mannion said the 5km and ‘Runway Mile’ medals for the events held on Saturday feature the Southern Cross SC-1, the aircraft that hangs boldly from the airport ceiling that serves as a tribute to the country’s rich aviation heritage.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Cr Geoff McDonald encouraged the community to get behind the event and enter one or more of the five events on offer confirming he would be participating at the event.
“The Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon adds diversity to the events in this city with the two-day program offering great opportunities to enjoy healthy activity with the whole family and even start an annual family tradition of involvement.
“It also presents a unique occasion for businesses to be involved, get a team or teams together for the corporate ‘Runway Mile’ and challenge other local businesses whilst promoting fitness within the workplace.”
Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport General Manager Kellie Banditt said their involvement with the marathon was an opportunity to showcase the airport and its facilities whilst engaging with the broader community.
“It’s also about contributing to the promotion of the city and support of a world-class event that has the potential to significantly impact international and interstate tourism to the Toowoomba region.”
Ms Banditt said the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport would be entering a team in the corporate ‘Runway Mile’ relay and they looked forward to a friendly competition with other local businesses.
Participants will be encouraged to collect their race kit from the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport on Saturday 3 May with Sunday pick-up pre-race at the Toowoomba Sports Ground.
