The largest shopping centre in the Darling Downs region has stepped up to the start line as the naming rights partner for the 5km event at this year’s Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon.

The Grand Central 5km is open to all ages and abilities starting from the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport terminal with a brand new fast and flat course heading along Airport Drive before a hairpin turn takes participants back to the finish line.

The 2025 marathon features an expanded lineup of events that will be spread across two days of racing with Saturday 3 May races held at the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport where entertainment, food trucks and activities will make it a fun day filled with healthy activity and celebrations.

Queensland Events Management CEO Ben Mannion welcomed Grand Central on board and congratulated them for supporting a burgeoning event in the city.

“We are delighted that the Grand Central team have the foresight to partner with us in an event that diversifies the city’s offerings for the community and also has the potential to drive significant tourism to the region.

“Running and participating in marathons and running events has become increasingly popular with the rise of running clubs and groups stemming from the pandemic.

“It’s a healthy activity, it’s simple and accessible and the Grand Central 5km is a great opportunity for the hundreds of park runners amongst us to clock an official time and test themselves on this totally flat course.

“We are seeing people from all over Australia register for one or two of the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon events with the Runway Mile and the Grand Central 5km providing inclusive options for participants of all ages and abilities and a fun social and healthy activity for corporate teams.”

Grand Central Centre Manager Tracey Ford said they were excited to be a part of the second Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon and the opportunity to throw their support behind a

major event that champions healthy activity and showcases the Toowoomba region to the world.

“We want to contribute to the growth and success of this event and play a role in promoting health and wellbeing.

“We encourage the community to get out and active and to experience a major event by entering the Grand Central 5km event, challenging family, friends and workmates and then enjoying an afternoon of fun and free entertainment at the airport.”
