12 reasons to run the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon

1. Take on a personal challenge

The Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon provides people of all ages and abilities with a personal challenge. It could be to run a distance, run a personal best time, fundraise for a cause or just run for the good times.

2. It’s in Toowoomba

Nicknamed the ‘Garden City’, Toowoomba is home to many beautiful parks and gardens and even has an annual festival the ‘Carnival of Flowers’. Renowned for its cathedrals and universities, it is celebrated for its preserved Victorian-era and traditional Queenslander architecture, historic churches, vibrant food and coffee culture.

3. Great running conditions

Held in Autumn, the weather conditions are traditionally great for running with low humidity, little wind and mild temperatures. Situated on the edge of the Great Dividing Range at about 700 meters above sea level, Toowoomba’s higher elevation offers a bit of a challenge for runners but also provides cleaner, fresher air and cooler temperatures, which makes it more conducive for long-distance running.

4. Scenic, historical and colourful course

Toowoomba is at its most colourful during autumn. The trees and gardens blush with shades of red, orange and yellow, the lawns become greener and the crisp Autumn leaves fall and scatter across the grass, making the Garden City appear even more vivid than during the summer months. As one of Australia’s oldest inland cities it is renowned for its preserved Victorian-era and traditional Queenslander architecture.

5. Spectator support

You will be inspired and motivated by the locals and visitors cheering for you from Picnic Point to Prince Henry Heights. Their support will get you to the finish line.

6. Rewards for finishing

Finishers are rewarded for their personal achievement with a commemorative medal and certificate. They are collectors’ items for those who come back from year-to-year or travel to running events around the world.

Celebrate the May long weekend with the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon and step up to the challenge on Saturday 3 – Sunday 4 May 2025 in the beautiful Toowoomba in Queensland, Australia.

The Events Management Queensland design team based the concept for the Toowoomba Marathon logo on the city’s historic floral emblem, the sweet violet. The vibrant purple flower with golden centre was adopted by the city in the early 1900’s when mothers and families of World War 1 soldiers sold bunches of sweet violets to raise money to build a large memorial for those who didn’t return home.*

A relaxed, nudging retro style font spelling out the event, dates and race options is an intentional nod to the region’s heritage and its country style. The shoe print connects the brand boldly leading the way to the Toowoomba Marathon finish line.

*The Mother’s Memorial now stands at East Creek near Queen’s Park and is the site of ANZAC Day commemorations since 1916.
